I'm using the ableton intro trial (sad I know) and I got an lpk25 yesterday and I can't get ableton to recognize it under midi sync. The standard usb audio device driver was installed automatically and I installed the lpk25 editor from the cd.

Have you enabled it in Ableton's preferences?
If not, go to Options > Preferences > MIDI/Sync.
Under "MIDI Ports", you should see "Input: LPK25". Toggle its "Track" from Off to On. It should work now.

Yes, I've gone to the preferences page and there is no lpk25 listed in the midi ports or under the inputs pull down bar.

There are two small squares on the top right of Ableton's window. Strike a key on your LPK25 - the upper square should light up. If it doesn't, then Ableton doesn't recognise it.
If this is the case, then you could try restarting your pc and replugging the LPK25 to a different usb port. If that doesn't work, then I think you should contact Ableton and Akai about it.
FYI, I'm using the LPK25 with Windows 7 (64-bit) and installation was a breeze. Literally plug and play. Didn't need to install anything since it's class compliant.

Try this:

(download and run)
If that doesn't work, do you happen to have a Logitech QuickCam? That driver screws with midi devices and needs to be uninstalled for the LPK25 to work.

Oh man, thanks so much. I've been trying to get it to work for two days and it was the stupid Quickcam driver. I never would have figured that out if you didn't tell me.

You'd be surprised what will mess with audio/midi gear..

I want to say that Akai can send you something to modify the registry so that both will coexist. I could be wrong, it could also just zap the registry entry for the quickcam lol.

I don't care though because I never use the quickcam. If I need a webcam I'll just buy a new one.
