hi all and thanks for a great forum
I play live drums in a duo and am trying to figure out how i can take a line out of my mixer with say a snare drum mic and trigger a MIDI event in Ableton live? the application would be say as a way to play a pad when a low gained mic pics up a loud hit on a floor tom??
the second question is..... how could i quickly switch from one song to another, with say a different key and a bunch of different sounds set up???
cheers and thanks in advance for any suggestions

I'd say your best bet is acoustic drum triggers.

We have triggers on our kick and snare - running into a Roland SPD-s - triggers a MIDI note with velocity sensitivity so we can assign a sound per patch on the Roland OR send a MIDI note into Live for any kind of reason (been thinking about live sidechain compression ducking with a real kick drum, might be kind of crazy)

So you'd have a trigger on the drum you want to trigger the sound, in live you could have a Chain in an Instrument Rack for each song, and a clips on each scene that put the chain selector on the right song at the right time - drum racks or whatever your triggering goes on each chain..

Should get you thinkin'

but to answer your actual question, there is programs that will trigger MIDI events based on incoming audio.. So search around for that if you're set on using audio, cheers
