I've heard a few times of this on this website but tbh I have no idea what it is. Can someone explain please? Thank You.

Typically in other DAWs you set up a loop in arrange view, and record multiple takes of the same part over and over again. Say your singer is doing the chorus and you want to try multiple different ways of singing it. With other DAWs, there's usually an option to stack all the takes vertically and then edit together the best parts (comping). Once you're done, you can flatten all the editing to a single file.
In Live, you can still record all the takes in the loop, but they are shown as just one long file that the user has to manually slice and add to new tracks before comping. The mian difference is that other DAWs just have some tools to speed up the process.

Not sure how other programs handle this, but Pro Tools 8 does a great job with this and that's the main reason I use it to record vocals and other live performances. Off the top of my head, track comping and then automation curves are my top feature requests for Live 9.
I doubt track comping will be forthcoming though. After all, Live is primarily for live performance and creative tasks like writing and sound design and I'm fine with that being the focus. That said, DAW tasks like track comping in Live would really simplify my workflow and give me the option of doing even more within Live itself. Either way, I trust Ableton to make the decisions about where they want to take the program. They haven't done too shabby so far.

It could be cool if there was a comping funtion that automatically created a group track once you loop back. Each new take would get it's own audio track with in the group, muting the previous track.

True, logic has hands down the best implementation of this that I've used personally. If live could implement this then it'd certainly remove one of the reasons for keeping logic on my hard drive...

Having moved from Cubase to Live, that is the one thing I really miss about Cubase.
