Problem recording crossfader from apc 40

I am using the apc's cross fader in a scratching fashion (not anything faster than 16th triplets really) with the fast cut setting. I use it both on audio in from turntables as well as on midi and audio clips. It works great and all until I try to record and when I play it back it doesn't recreate the same sound produced while recording (yes the source audio is the same). On inspection of the crossfader automation lane it looks like it isn't recording the crossfader movements at a very high resolution and thus the rhythm of the crossfader movement is more or less lost. I figure since it sounds perfect when I am doing it live it must not be a problem with the apc itself and there should be a way to record the fader's midi messages at a higher resolution? any ideas?
