Launchpad mapping and visual feedback

Hello
I'm a new Live and Launchpad user and I have a couple of questions about MIDI mapping and visual feedback.
With Remote mode enabled for both the input and output ports of the Launchpad, some MIDI mapping provide a nice visual feedback. For example, mapping any Launchpad button to a Track On button (track mute) makes the Launchpad button light up when the track is active. The same is true for Device On buttons. Mapping any button to a clip activator makes it light up in different ways when the clip is playing.
Unfortunately most other functions don't seem to provide visual feedback. Mapping a Launchpad button to Track solo, Track arm, or global Overdub doesn't give any visual feedback about the state of the mapped function, even though they are simple on/off switches.
Why this difference? Is there a way I can enable visual feedback on my own, when it's missing, or is it an incomplete feature in Live?
Also, as many have noted, mapping a rotary or continuous control to a range of Launchpad buttons (especially a range of adjacent note values, such as an entire row in User 2 mode, or the column of round buttons in User 1 mode) makes it work in 'Launchpad fader' mode, similar to the 'faders' in Mixer mode. It would be GREAT if it showed visual feedback about the value of the control, like the mixer faders do! Can it be done?
The second question builds on the first: how is User 1 being mapped in the Launchpad official video?

I get the clip buttons (bottom row) and the various effects (1st and 7th row), which are probably Device on buttons.
What I don't get is the middle section, that seems to have four identical drumkit mappings (different buttons but same notes) mapped to four clips of the same track, with visual feedback! How is it done? Does anybody have the Set used in that video?
I have stumbled upon this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jkvq_6Jg6UU which is very clever, but it doesn't fully explain what I'm seeing in that video.
