it's about time eh?
groups are so handy for performing
and the audio drop outs in version 4 need to be cleared up.

Group tracks as in routing a bunch of seperate audio tracks to one audio track?

sure, tho i was just thinking of display purposes. rhgt now in a track im working on there are two returns and two empty tracks where i've routed in audio from the impulse. they'll never have scenes in them, but they're taking up half my screen. hide them, resize them to be smaller, group them together and assign a keystroke to show them/hide them.

Ah I get ya :) I was just gonna say that you can group tracks, but you guys meant visually.

Thats a great idea! Something that should have been implemented since day 1!

Yes! The screen gets crowded quickly - it would be great to hide the midi tracks after rendering, or maybe group an instrument, midi, and rendered audio track together in a folder.

that's what i was thinking
so you could have one midi controller controlling a group of say drum tracks etc.
then if you could hide tracks and be left with just the group faders visual
now that would be heaven!

just read a review of sonar 4 and it's got a new feature where you can create a track that you can dump other tracks into and then make changes to the overall track. like floders in photoshop where you can store layers and hide them all, add a mask to them all, etc. very smart.

Logic's had that for quite some time, folder tracks where you can dump several tracks into, and have full group control over inserts and sends. Very practical.

i'm a new live user, but i wanted to resurrect this idea. i love this program, but there is only one thing that i miss from sx: being able to dump stuff into a folder track. the ideas in this thread should be implemented asap -- they make a lot of sense!

for example, i have a about 8 midi tracks going to battery (and more to come), and I would love to be able to hide some/group some according to sound, etc.

tks for a great prog, ableton!

Live 5 does allow you to minimize tracks to a "sliver", which is almost as good as folder tracks. When minimized, you can read the first character of the track name, so I start all midi tracks with an "M". That way, once I render the audio, I can semi hide the supporting tracks.

Unlike true folder tracks, however, you can take any actions for multiple tracks at once, like group sends, etc.

Yes, with Live you can group tracks. There's just one annoying thing: if you solo the group track, you hear nothing. You have to solo all tracks in the group too. In Cubase (Logic, Sonar?) just soloing the group is enough.

I hope that Ableton will fix that.
