Reaktor Session, OS X and Live 4.04

Post by 5inusoid » Fri Dec 17, 2004 12:26 am

I really can't get Reaktor Session running stably on OS X. I can maybe get a small ensemble to render to a track, but more often than not, it usually crashes Live. Anyone else having this difficulty?

did you ever ask this question to the reaktor's session board ?
guess they'll answer you the same thing about ableton... :?

At first I couldn't get RS to even change ensembles without crashing. With Live 4.04 and expanded RAM (I'm now at 1Gig) it seems way more stable. It's a real cpu hog and for intense ensembles I have to run RS at 22 khz. Most of the time it will crash if I try to start up multiple instances on different tracks, although I have been able to get two instances going. Mostly I think of RS as a one instance VSTi. If I want more, I render to disk and then delete the instance. Not ideal, but it works.

At one point I did some system cleanup (diskwarrior, cocktail). Also, since I shutdown my mac every evening, and someone pointed out that OSX runs maintenance scripts at night, I now run cocktail to manually run these cron scrips every week or so. That might have helped things.

I've just updated to OS 10.3.7, but it's too soon to tell. Other people (Digital Performer users groups) really like it (compared to 10.3.6).

Yeah.. Reaktor in general really is a pig dog with Live 4.. i think also that its just very very very demanding on your computer in general.. so unless you've got the latest and greatest.. its gonna be unstable.. also i think its not optimized too well.. (where have i heard that before....).

Best noises you can get out of a VSTi/AUi though... bugger.

Yeah, and I'm running on a PBG4 1Ghz. This setup doesn't really allow for too taxing a Vsti, period.

I am having a terrible time running NI's "Beatslicer" ensemble with Reaktor SEssions through Live 4.04 on 10.3.7.. Everything is updated, I dont think it could be a memory problem because i am using a dual G5 with 2GB of ram and using mostly low quality samples (under 2MB).. the memory was at 8% and I got the spinning wheel, I dont even get an option of sending an error report to apple or ableton..

It all looks pretty cool but works for sh$t..

too bad..

Yeah, dog, forget Reaktor Session through Live. Except for some REALLY low CPU drum machines in Reaktor, I've almost always had it crash on me through Live. They just really don't like each other....

Live 4 + Reaktor

I am using Live 4.04 with Reaktor Session and I am getting about 6 AU instances. I am using an iMac G5 1.8GHZ with 2GB of RAM.
I get an occasional crash here and there. I try to render to disk when I can.
