MIDI problems, please help...

OK, I have a Behringer FCB1010 set up as my remote control.
Ableton Live 4 recognizes the incoming MIDI and flashes that little light to prove it to me.
I can assign in the MIDI map a key and it will register me as having pushed something.
Here are the problems:

If I send a Program Change Command of any number 01, 02, 03, etc... Abbleton thinks I am just sending the same number.

If I send a Controller Message, Ableton will let me assign it in the MIDI map, but will not register it when I push my key later...

Can anyone help me? What MIDI information do you send to Ableton to have a simple on/off switch? What do you use to differentiate your messages?

thanks in advance to any replies.

Personally, for on/off I always just use notes.

so then I set a scene launch, for example to trigger from my pressing of a certain "note" that is sent from the foot pedal.

I just started at the bottom with a note "value" of 1 for button one/bank 0, 2 for button two /bank 0, 11 for button 1/ bank 1, etc.

Then map it in live.

The problem with using notes is that I am a keyboard player!!! So I don't want to be up to my elbows in a low-end solo and suddenly start triggering a bunch of strange Ableton commands!

But your advice is helpful. Maybe I can use unused keys from other octaves or set my keyboard to a different channel...

Thanks for the help. I will try it out. But surely there is some way to make Ableton Live register different Program Change or Controller Numbers? Native Instrument's Guitar Rig can do it...
