I can't recommend these enough. I just got back from a very loud gig and have no fatigue whatsoever. The -15db filters are easy to dj with and save your ears. This was my first time using them while dj'ing and I didn't even notice they were in.

Amen. Got some Etymotic ER-15s custom moulded a few years back now. Not cheap but best £150 I've ever spent. Everyone should get some.

I've also got some £150 custom earplugs.

The attenuation isn't as flat as you might initially think (I was expecting an effect like simply turning down the volume, possibly a bit optimistic!), sometimes I do find I lose a bit of detail. Specifically the sound is quite bass-heavy, less of these harsh highs that seem to cut through your ears. They're usually OK for hearing people speaking, sometimes seems to depend on the angle. Fine for DJing but I wouldn't trust them for, say, mixing a live band.

Definitely great for saving your ears, I definitely take that seriously, the slight muffling is worth it if it means I won't lose my hearing! and the custom fit is brilliant, that's probably a bigger difference compared to the cheap ones than the sound quality as such. Makes them so much more comfortable to wear, as you say it's easy to forget they're in.

I only have the cheap etymotic's but I will never go out without them. Played a show and stayed out the rest of the night a few weeks back. I left the plugs in about 90% of the time while i was around loud volumes, the plugs dont bother my ears for comfort. and My ears were perfect the next day.

Apart from recycling old jokes... +1 on the custom earplugs. My custom Elacin ER-15 are fantastic. Getting to be 3 years old now and think may need a new pair... think they have a four year lifespan or so before your ear canal's changed shape again...

You can diy a pair starting with this stuff:

and using a decent set of earbuds.

Maybe not as good as the $200 ones. But not $200.
