I read a top secret dossier on the under-web about this.

Apparently "they" are the good guys, and it's us who are the baddies. It seems that all along we have been using mind control drugs on ourselves to make us think the way we do. Also we use evil mind-control techniques on ourselves such as self-selective reinforcement of aberrant belief systems, and keep ourselves in un-natural mental states via cognitive dissonance. Also, we summoned an asteroid by collectively being ???????? and ????????? with the ????? , just about everything.
Fortunately "They" are out to help, assist and generally do good things to benefit us. Despite our innate awfulness.
