Vangelis type sounds in Ableton?

Post by mcpepe » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:22 pm

I am new to Ableton Live.

Do we have in the library any sounds in the style of Vangelis?
I am specially interested in those lead brassy expressive sounds.

Thanks.

That would probably be the Yamaha CS-80.

Arturia make a softsynth based on this, the CS-80v. Try the demo - it works for 2 weeks with no limitations.

Yes!!! These are the sounds I want!!

So nothing in the Ableton Library?

I really do not want to install any VST. I have restricted myself only to use Ableton (to keep things as simple as possible)
Maybe there is a sample library or addon for Sampler or any other Ableton synth...

Hey, Thanks!!

Now I really have a problem, because I am using Ableton Live Intro and maybe I have the excuse to buy the Suite version...
I cannot open the sound. It says that I need to buy Analog.

Thanks anyway!.

ah. short version: saw waves for your oscs, a bit of low pass filter, ease off the attack, attach an lfo to pitch (very subtly) and control lfo intensity with mod wheel. throw this through some delay and reverb. most va synths can get you close but analog is particularly good. btw, the lead in this: http://www.vimeo.com/5502210 was made with that patch.

There is a great Chariots of Fire 'horn' preset that comes with Sylenth1! I think it might be called Vangelis actually.

For about 10 years from 1977 onwards, the CS80 was his main synth, but he also used Roland SH1000, ProMars and Jupiter 4 (early 80s), Arp Odyssey, ARP ProSoloist, ARP2600 and the Oberheim 2 Voice, Clavinet, Korg Minipops, Roland System 100 and 700. Among other things.
