Depending on which model you have I'd say OS 10.2 aka "Jaguar". It is simply much more solid than 9. Although you may get slightly better performance(more tracks, effects, etc.) with OS 9 it is worth the piece of mind that OS X is much more reliable. Especially in a live situation. Only problem with OS X is it is very hungry so if you have an older model with an 8mb graphics card you may have some issues. I suggest turning off ALL graphic options like text smoothing, dock magnification, etc. Another option might be to get yourself an external FireWire HD running at 7200 RPM. It may give you a little more track performance. Overall I say stick with OSX. It is the future of Mac and you don't want to be worried about OS 9 crashing on you. Good Luck![/i]

thank you very much for your response tjwett. I'm speaking of an Ibook 600mhz, with the ram maxed out to 640mb. can I expect performance that will be usable with jaguar, i'm definitley not as concerned about the future as the present.

os x is by far more stable and just looks sexy as hell, but os 9 is sooooo much quicker. it's two to three times as fast as os x, depending on your model. that said, i found 9 to be too unstable to really get down and dirty. too many times i lost a bunch of hard work due to some plug-in or memory allocation thing, so i use x.2, and i mangae to work with what i have.
