So I finally got to see Sasha using Ableton this last weekend at Avalon in LA. I have to say that it was one of the most impressive sets I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Though I still love vinyl and CD formats, if this is the future of live DJing I am excited. He did some things that were unbelieveable. Mad props!

nice

really though, a big name like sasha endorsing ableton and laptop sets will bring some "legitimacy" and acceptance to this field in the eyes of the "masses" and bring this out of the underground.

we'll all have to find something else to do i guess....

:x

Sasha is a big name club dj and producer that gets paid a boatload of money to fly all over the world year in and year out and play records for people at parties, clubs, and raves.

I'd bet he makes close to 10 grand a party. Although I hear the "superstar" djs aren't bringing in the dough like they used to.

I you do not know who Sasha is go see the front page of this website. He used Ableton live to create his latest CD.

I saw him play in Singapore recently and it was very uninspiring. He failed to catch the mood of a large enthusiastic crowd, some of whom had travelled a long distance to see him and had been enjoying the warm-up DJ a lot.

There were a lot of disappointed people, shuuffling around, waiting for him to get into it. Once or twice it almost took off into a groove, but never quite made it.

Hope Sasha recovers his former core excellence as a DJ, rather than a Live improv. Certainly surprised me, as his Live performances seem revered on this forum.

Maybe it was just a bad set ... but his standing infront of the crowd twiddling with a laptop was unnecessary and added to the sense of funklessness.

Shameless plug

This was my first DJ set with Live. I recieve many compliments on the quality of the audio, the seemless transitions, and everyone's favorite track is the last song (Quivver - These are the Days).

Everything I have is ripped from my vinyl collection. I still buy vinyl and rip everything via Technics SL1200 -> Rolls Phono Pre-amp -> Echo Indigo I/O. When I DJ, I always have Live's EQ3 on each audio track and the BBE Sonic Maximizer on the master output for that extra sparkle. Everything is controlled with an X-Session (for now, until something better comes out).

cool, i'll need to check that out when i get home mate, always good to hear other peoples styles.

back to the sasha topic though, has any one seen his "custom built contoller" yet? with all the hype that there was about it being used for the first time this month theres not been anything said since.

and did you know sasha use's live?
