Is it possible to change the click sound? Man, is the default sound ANNOYING.
I searched. All I dfound was this:

.
First, the click tone is obnoxious, and cannot be changed without highjacking the root library in your computer’s Operating System (NOT advisable for the faint of heart).

The metronome .wav file, which can be substituted by a different, is located here on PCs:
C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 8.0.5\Resources\Misc\Metronome
On Macs:
Applications> Open Package Contents> Apps-Resources > Misc> Metronome> Samples
Make sure you substitute the MetronomeUp.wav too. That's the accent.
I have no idea how to do the second step on a Mac. But here you all go.

I never really thought about it, but after reading this thread I decided to replace the standard Live clicks with the click sound from my Akai MPC 5k. Much better IMO.
I've decided to share the files in case you want to use them.

I find a nice kick lends itself to more natural playing on my part - more quickly.
The harsher click causes a bit of tension.

Depending on my mood, I'll just play some made-up click in an audio or midi channel. Seems I work best with hats/tambourine

As a bonus, you can make it sway instead of being forced to click-track to the redundant Click track.

our drummer loves the cowbell-LD sound (no accent). just created a 4/4 MIDI track /w 2 empty bars in the beginning.
works only in arrangement, thuogh.

The metronome wavs can be found at:
(Mac) live app > right click > show package contents > contents > app-resources > misc > metronome > samples
and as Tone helpfully pointed out on PC:
C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 8.1\Resources\Misc\Metronome\Samples
I replace mine with a neutral Logic klopfgeist click.
Also, I use the same sound for both the up- and down-beats.
Sounds kind of like the proximity tracker in Aliens... grab 'em here if you like:

It is annoying. I like the metronome sound in Logic much better. It's nice & soft like a baby's bottom.

My Approach is to use a loop instead.
I take a shaker loop or hihat or whatever.
I create a track for that loop and just turn it on only when i need to.
