adding a new track (any type) takes too long

in live versions 6, and 7 when I pressed the keys to add a new track (any type), the new track appeared instantly, ready to use.
Since upgrading to live v8, when I do this same action, the computer stops for about 1 second then adds the track. What gives? Anyone else having this problem? Same hardware config for V6, and V7. Could it possibly be a setting? if so, which one would affect new tracks being added to a project?
