Routing Problems

I am trying to use my DSI Evolver desktop synth and Focurite Saffire Pro 24 audio interface with Ableton. I have midi routed out from my keyboard to midi in on the synth, and I have the L and R stereo outs going from the synth to the Saffire Pro line ins. The Saffire has audio outs to my monitors, midi out to the synth, and firewire connected to my mac. When I use the external instrument device in Ableton the indicators in the upper right indicate that Ableton is both sending and receiving midi, and the "Midi To" (channel 1) meter indicates it is receiving a signal but I am getting no sound. The "Audio From" meter shows no signal. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I have tried all kinds of routing setups but nothing seems to make it work. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

U should also maybe route the "MIDI from" selector at the external intrument device.

Best thing to do in these cases is always to follow the signal in a logical way:

1: listen to the evolver itself. Put headphones in an out or something. Is it making a sound?

Then trace the audio back step by step until you see where it's getting lost. Step 2 would be, if the sapphire has a way to monitor what's coming in without having an audio app on, check it there. And so on.

BUT

Rereading your post I'm a little confused. Here's how I would set this up:
keyboard midi out -> sapphire midi in
sapphire midi out -> evolver midi in

Evolver audio out -> sapphire audio in
sapphire audio out -> monitors

Then set a midi track to the midi channel you want, and set an audio track to monitor the sapphire in. Remember that you won't see any levels unless you either arm the record button or set the monitor type to In.

I can say with confidence, as an evolver owner, that until you have a handle on this stuff you are not going to get any value out of:
evolver midi out -> sapphire midi in. Assuming we're talking about a desktop evolver. The stuff it's sending is only clock unless you set the evolver's mod matrix up to send more stuff.
