hello,

had live installed that came with my digidesign mbox. Loved it so I got live 4.03. now when I try to boot it up in slave mode I get this error message:

the rewire master application has detected a different version of live than the one last used. live will not run as rewire slave unless you restart both the current rewire master application and live.

I did what it said and nothing. I tried to do everything I could think of to remedy it, reinstalling software and whatnot. nothing.

Any suggestions

try deleting prefs and then give it a shot.
maybe re-install again?

thought I deleted all the prefs I found. What would they be called and where? Are they live,rewire or pro tools prefs? i deleted any prefs I found relating to pro tools and live.

if you're convinced you deleted the prefs;
try this:

-launch pro tools
-create track or aux
-select REWIRE in plug-in section on channel, maybe record enable
the track
-THEN
launch Live.

sometimes task order can come into play with rewire apps.
this was the case with DP.

you just should start Live 4 once standalone! so that it can install its ReWire engine part.
So the message box "...unless you restart both the current rewire master application and live." is not right. We will change that.

I have the same issue - reinstalling the rewire engine did not help!

i am also getting the same message "the rewire master application has detected a previous version of live..." did you have any luck??? please help.

to which version of Live do you refer and on which computer platform and operating system do you use Live?

alex, i had the live digidesign edition, i believe 2.01 and have installed version 4.04. Standalone mode works fine, however when i launch rewire as an insert and then launch live, i get the message that the rewire master application has detected a previous version of live and i need to restart both the master application and live. when i do this it does i still get the same message. are there previous version preferences or pro tools preference that i need to reset? i am using pro tools 6.9.2 with osx tiger. thanks.

Hi dulla,

the message itself is a bit confusing in Live 4.0.4. Normally you have to start Live 4.0.4 once standalone so that it can install its ReWire engine and then close it again. if you want to use another Live version as ReWire slave you have to to the same again with this version.

I also recommend you to use the latest version Live 4 version, which is Live 4.1.4. We corrected there also a problem with the ReWire slave behavior.
You can download Live 4.1.4 from the update website by entering your Live 4 Digidesign Edition serial number:

Alex, i have started this version of ableton in standalone mode to initialize the rewire engine. when i download the update for 4.14 the unlock key that i had does not work. i am in a bit of a jam unless you explain to me a good way to make rewire recognize 4.0.4. thanks.

What exactly happens when you start Live 4.1.4?
Can you not enter the serial number you used for Live 4.0.4?

yes. i purchased a used digi 002 that came with 4.0.4. I have not done a transfer of ownership yet so i don't have the unlock code for the software. when i enter the serial number i get a message that says i have reached my unlock limit. all i need to do is get my version of live to work unless i can get an unlock text file or code. i tried re-registering the software but that doesn't give me my own unlock code either. is their a patch or update that would get my version to be recognized by rewire?

contact our support via [email protected] with your Live 4 digidesign serial number and the unlock limit problem. They will help you as soon as possible.

Live 4.1.4 is the update and when our support solved your unlock problem it will hopefully work.

I´m using Cubase SX 2.2 and i want to use it with live 5, but the message "the rewire master application has detected a different version of live than the one last used" doesnt stop bugging.
With live 4 i didnt have any problem, they used to worked really good.

I unnistalled Live, Cubase, Reason. I cleaned the registry and i installed them again...BUT NOTHING!!! JUST DOESNT WORK!!!!

If somebody knows how to fix this please Tell ME!!!
