Deleting Unplayable Instruments

Hi there, and thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

I have just bought Live 8.2 and am getting to grips with it. An Annoyance is that there seem to be lots of Instruments which are linked to components such as Analog or Tension which come with Ableton Suite (which I don't have). I can't see any way of telling which Instruments are useable and which are not without trying to add them to a session. When I do I regularly get the message: "This device is not available in this version of Live".

Of course I can delete the whole live pack, but I then lose many working Instruments along with the unplayable ones.

Grateful to anyone who can point out what I'm missing.

Cheers!

Alan

have you tried a library repair? (from the options/preferences)

i believe with newer versions of 8 even if you don't own a certain instrument, they are often used in racks and must be installed in the library in order to make the presets usable.

if you do a repair, it should re-build the analog, tension, etc.. live packs which should give you access to use the presets.

without the suite version (aka all instruments) you also lack the ability to edit racked presets using the instruments you don't own.

Update: It worked. Repairing the library took an astonishing amount of time (about 5 hours) however all the instruments now work as they should.

Hoorah. and cheers for the advice.
