Maschine or Software I already have with MPD or Pad Kontrol?

Hi all,

I'm contemplating buying Maschine in the never ending pursuit of producing better beats. However, I'm sort of thinking, I have no shortage of samples with the likes of RMV, Battery, Toontrack EZ Drummer as well as iDrum and Drumaxx. So, I'm thinking maybe buy a MPD although truthfully I'd actually prefer a step sequencer as simple as the MPD but programs like a 909 or Electribe.

I am doing a mish mash of different styles mucking around with fusing my punk background with electronic style hard beats...

Any suggestions/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Maschine kicks the sh*t out of any plugin/controller combination i tried, the workflow is the best i know, the samples that you get with Maschine are very good and should fit every genre & style. My drum-programming got so much better since i bought Maschine. I tried Akai controllers (mpd24) with drumracks/impulse before and found it terrible uninspiring and cumbersome - Maschine....wait for it... just works ! and it works great.

I also owned a Electribe ESX some time ago and i really liked to jam around with it, but Maschine can do everything a Electribe does and much, much more.

Maschine absolutely gets my vote when it comes to beat production. Combined with Live its allmost unbeatable !

Definitely seems to bea lot of love for Maschine around here. I already have Komplete and really enjoy the quality of NI synths. Are there any negatives/pitfalls that I should be prepared for?

Yeah, the feeling of inevitable regret not getting it any sooner or having wasted time with anything else.

Although I do think that some people should learn it the hard way like I did to truly appreciate what makes Maschine so awesome. I went from MPCs, RM1X, Electribe ESX, Ableton Drum Racks with padkontrol...etc. before realizing Maschine was the only thing that exists right now that combines the best parts of all other solutions without their annoying limitations, and only keeping the right type of built-in limitation that encourages efficient and productive workflow. Those who have only used software won't realize why some hardware diehards are so married to the hardware workflow which Maschine possesses. Those who have only used standalone hardware are likely to give Maschine a miss because of the negative experience of all other software solutions requiring clicking around with a mouse and staring at a computer screen.

Sounds like a very similar background to myself....seems like it might be time to start checking the bank balance....I have an MPC5000 which is basically gathering dust..might be time to list it on Ebay.

Yep this is true for me as well. If you've ever had issue integrating the hardware with your daw then take a look at maschine. with a multiclient soundcard you can use it like a virtual mpc (standalone you can slave Live, Reaktor etc).

One caveat though, it doesn't have full midi control yet, only note, pitch and mod so if you are planning to use it to sequence and control external instruments it is limited but the workflow is superb. The support is great, check the forum over at Ni and the maschine 'on the record' sessions to see what's coming.

Oh yeah, no timestretch either! Thought i'd better mention that as a few people have bought it expecting that as standard.
