Live can not see 2caudio Aether after update to 1.5.1

i already had problems rendering tracks (freeze or export) when using Aether ("out of memory" WITH enough RAM, or "exceptional error bla" and exiting), but i save this for another post. I am using Live 8.2.
currently i have a bigger problem: this morning i worked on a song with Aether 1.5. everything (except the rendering thing) worked fine. then i upgraded to Aether 1.5.1, but now the VST will not show up in Live's VST Browser at all.
Tried reinstalling, rescanning, tried what is decribed here: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=151429
but nothing works. any thoughts?
(yes, all progs i have are legit)
