Okay, I think I'm going completely mad here and also being very stupid.

But, I'm fairly sure I'm supposed to have a button somewhere near the bottom of each track which launches the currently selected clip on the track. However all I have is a clip stop button. So I'm thinking this must be a contextual button, right? It changes to a launch button when I select a stopped clip on the track? ...nope, thats not it. Maybe I need the track record arm switched on? ...nope, didn't change anything apart from making each cell have a record button.
I'm pretty sure I had this button when I was using Live 6 but just recently upgraded to Live 8 and bought an APC20. (I know, I know I have an APC20 and I still want a track launch button - please just don't ask.)

Can someone tell me whether I'm being completely stupid, or whether I just dreamed of this button or something?
