LP/MPD midi routing issue?

i have an MPD24 with a novation launchpad. with many of my sets in live ill map notes in the D bank of my MPD to control track activation. these notes in D bank of the MPD correspond to notes on the launch pad. those that do, often don't light up. whats more, the corresponding notes/pads "work for each other". example: in session view of LP, the 6th scene launcher will kill my track activation when its on/turn in on if its off.

hope im making sense, and im sure the issue is simpler than im makin it out to be, but any help is much appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand your issue - you're having trouble getting a control on the Launchpad to work in general, or just in getting it to light up?

i dont blame you for your confusion, im quite new to the production scene and am still a little cloudy on the simple things.

let me say this, i solved my issue by turning off "remote" for the LP input in preferences. this however creates a separate issue; i can no longer use "user 1" mode to midi map controls and parameters. for instance, i use a series of pads in user 1 mode to control the LFO sync rate of a bass track. once i turned "remote" off in preferences for the LP's input, those pads do nothing now.

it seems to be a catch 22 of sorts.

I'd like to help you - but I need you to better explain your setup, and what you are trying to do.

From what I gather, it sounds like you're having trouble with pads on the Launchpad and the MPD triggering the same note?

ok ill try and break it down as best i can.

let me start by saying im using Live 8.2 running windows 7.

let me also state that the issue is not so much with the MPD, but with the LP's MIDI sync preferences within live. i have the LP selected as a control surface. it is known that we can use the 64 pads of the LP in User 1 mode as 64 key keyboard for instruments in Live. we can also assign pads to control effect activation and/or effect parameters. this, based on my trial and error, seems to be determined by turning on the "Track" option in the MIDI sync tab of Lives preferences. Next to "Track" is "Sync" and "Remote" options in MIDI sync preferences. it would appear that when Remote is turned on, im able to use the User 1 view pads as normal. however, turning remote on presents this specific issue for me:

i use 4 pads in the D bank of my MPD to control track activation. the resulting notes used in the MPD correspond to notes of the LP. more specifically - i have a track whose activation is toggled by hitting a pad in D bank, the note for which is labeled "E5" in the MIDI mapping browser. when i hit the 6th Scene launcher on the LP in session view, it too will toggle that track's activation because its note is also "E5".

like i said, i can fix that entirely by turning remote off in preferences, but then im unable to make use of User 1 mode as i should.

thats about as detailed as i can get. i sincerely appreciate your patience in assisting me.

I see what you mean. Have you tried disabling "track" on the input from the MPD?

a friend of mine suggested something along the lines of using CC notes to assign controls to, as opposed to notes labled "E5", "C1" etc. not exactly sure what he means by that, might you? and if so, does it sound like a viable workaround? hes coming over to my place early next week to help me troubleshoot
