Warping frustration

Folks- i *think* I am doing the same thign everythig I try to warp, but am getting an intermittent, but consistant error.

Using v 8.0.4, the steps I am taking to warp (really pretty constant tempo) electronic music are:

1) Load file
2) Find first downbeat, create warp marker here
3) Right click > 'set as 1.1.1'
4) Right click > 'warp from here (straight)
5) [unsure at this point if I should be changing the 'seg. BPM to a whole number if it is close to it- trying both ways, but same result {read on} but advise on tis point appreciated]
6) Listen with metronome- it is 90% of the time not perfect
7) In those 90% of times, skip through sone with metronome on and click and drag transients to move beats to main numbers on scale

Now, 50% of the time, it works fine. The other 50%, when most of the way through the track, clicking on the transients causes the scale at the top of the waveform to go wacko (back to -300,000 odd) causing the waveform to be very compressed.

At the same time, the 'Seg. BPM' is ALWAYS reset to exactly '5'.

Anyone seen this before? Is it something I am doing wrong? A bug?

Hiya,
I'm new to this as well, but had the same problem as you.
Initially I was checking nearly every warp marker and making loads of adjustments....some of which would give the effect you describe.

So what I do now, (and appears to work well so far) is..
1) i import a song and play it unwarped.
2) I tap the tempo (without metronome) to get a roughly correct bpm (displayed in the counter).
2a) I then click on warp in the clip view
2b) I delete all warp markers, (click on one and use CTRL A, then delete)
3) I find the first beat (set 1.1.1.) and select "warp from here start at (tapped tempo)"
3a) turn on metronome
4) i check the warping as the song goes through. When it drifts of I choose the previous warp marker that was in line and again select "warp from here at (tapped tempo)"... and carry on checking repeat as necessary.


this is working quite well for me and seems to be quicker than making small movements to each marker.

Anyone else out there have ideas as to why I am the steps I outlined are causing the timeline to go wacko and my Seg. BPM set itself to 5?

Hey,

Just tried that method, and it worked as well as using "Warp from here (straight)".

However, I still got the same problem, i.e. timeline hugely expanding and BPM setting to '5' when I try to click and drag a transient to fix small drifts in tempo.

If I don't reply again, it's cos the laptop's been lobbed out the window...
