is there a way anyone knows of to limit or compress the range of incoming midi notes to ableton?

i have an arppeggiator generating midi sequences but want to be able to drag notes it generates above and below a certain range back into that range.

ta.

Depending on exactly what you want to do, you may be able to accomplish it through an appropriate combination of Scale and Pitch MIDI effects.

i've tried to do it with the midi plugins, can't get the result i want though.
what i'm trying to do is limit the range of incoming midi notes by folding anything above or below a range back into that range.

eg: c0 to b0 is the range.
a note comes in at d3
so it get's folded back to d0?

i made a midi effect rack for something similar a while back

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/78200/octave-remapper.zip

it remaps anything outside of c3 to b3 back into that octave.
i'm sure you can adjust it to work for you.

wicked, works a treat.
just added extra chains for the octaves above and below what you'd already done.

thank you kindly.

Anyone still got that or is smart enough to construct such a rack?

ahh ok now i understand. in that case, use a midi effect rack with a Pitch device on each chain. lets say your main range is from c3 to b3 like you said originally. on the first Pitch chain, set the pitch dial to +24, the range to +11st, and lowest to c1. this will transpose the pitch up by 2 octaves only for the c1 to b1 range. on the second chain, set the pitch dial to +12, and lowest to c2. use the same method for as many chains/ranges that you want repitching."
