Try the Auto Pan, with amount at 100% and phase at 0.00 degrees, and then play with the rate.

Not sure to understand what you mean, but if you're after something like a stobe light On-Off, On-Off, On-Off and so on for a sound, I would run the amplitude of my sound (from a synth or Live's Simplier for exemple) through a square LFO and play with the rate to adjust the speed of the ''On-Off'' effect. Not sure if that helps, it's kinda weird question! 8)

Try this here : http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=152763

It's called granular synthesis...

The sound of a sample gets repeated at a chosen speed, and
this thread tells you more...

+ also play with the shape and the LFO waveform (i use the the one next to the sin wave) if you want a harder chopping effect..

sometimes the amount at something like 90% can make the effect sound a little less harsh and it might mesh a little better, tweak to taste

OR

use dummy clips and make patterns in the volume envelope

Take some white noise, duplicate it and pitch one of them down.
When you reduce the attacks, then you might become a smoke machine like effect.
