What will compliment an APC40 better? APC20 or Launchpad?

So... I already have an APC40, but am sick of traveling with it everywhere. I travel a lot for non-gig reasons, and like to work on both production and DJing in transit, in the hotel, etc. Both APC20s and Launchpads are going cheap these days so I want to jump on one of them. I am also using M4L, if that changes anything. I want something that will also work well in the home studio in conjunction with my APC40.

Any recomendations?
Any compatibility issues between Launchpad & APC40? (I've seen a couple threads relating to these but haven't heard of any major issues using both a APC40 and Launchpad)

Thanks in advance!

Launch Pad

APC40 is better for more detailed work, better control as a studio controller.

Launch Pad is just fun. its controls are more quantized than the APC so it's not good for detailed work but I do find it inspiring to bang on.

i know it's not into your options, but you should really consider an ipad as your oneandonly controller for music on the go. check out livecontrol and touchable

plus it will be very hand in the plane too :)

Tone - Yeah, I'm starting to think that an APC20 will just be more of the same.

naph - haha, I have all that shit already. I guess I've become a gearwhore. The iPad stays home with the wife while my Mac travels; this was the way I sold that purchase to the boss.

speaking about being a gearwhore, i got both an apc40 and a launchpad

actually i bought the launchpad with the idea of writing my own stepsequencer in m4l and using it along the apc40, but i actually gave up while reverse engineering other people work, but i never managed to get it as reliable as i wished, in the meanwhile the whole ipad thing came up and my launchpad is sitting int ohis box waiting for a new owner :)

note: i'm looking at it 90% in a music making perspective, not in a liveact, maybe it could come more handy in this context

anyway i think that for just programming drums, maybe the maschine would be the most appropriated one (or maybe just cause i don't have it, lol)

Well if you want to work in transit then go LaunchPad as its bus powered and the APC20 isnt (So you need a mains power point to use it). After using both units for awhile I came up with this summary:

Hope it helps

lunch pad would be great for stage and traveling when it wouldnt be twice as big as it should be.. a realy retard design you can operate perfectly with ou feets big tows !!

and it has an ableton style halfbaked software implementation :-(

actually you should get get an i-pad and sell the apc aslong you still get money for it

Yeah man, that video really helps! Thanks!! I'm sold on the Launchpad now, especially since I have a Faderfox to compliment it. That Lunchbox looks mighty tasty too, though...

Thanks guys!!
