hi
I am deciding on a new pair of compact monitors

I had a listen to KRK VXT6 and Mackie MR5's today

When comparing the two, the KRK's seems flat and dry whereas the Mackies had more colour and richness.

I dont know which is better for me, should i deliberately choose a flat dry monitor? Or pick one with the more richer sound.

The mr series can be compared with the rokit series from krk not the vxt....vxt's are far superior than the mr5 from mackie, and theres also a real difference between 5 and 6 inch monitors

totally.

You can compare the Mackie HR824's against the VXT but the MR5 is similar to the ROkit G2 range.

What you have to look for is the monitors which sound the most neutral, not the ones which 'sound best'. SOunding flatter is usually a good sign, that often means it's less hyped in certain ranges and will give a truer picture of the mix.

Sorry, i was mistaken, it is the RP5 Rockit that i was listening to, not the VXT.

I think i prefer the Mackies. Compared the M-Audio BX5a as well, fairly close the the rockits but less low end i thought.
