CPU spikes w/Duet

I am running the latest Ableton version on a 3.06 Intel Mac C2D with 4GB Ram and OSX 10.6.5, using the Duet interface with the latest drivers..
I have been getting massive CPU spikes when starting/stopping play, and also at points when the track becomes more dense with audio/midi. I then have to reset the audio by clicking on the CPU monitor (off then on). This process continues repeatedly.
I recently took the laptop with me and worked on the same project using Coreaudio without the Duet. No more CPU spikes!
This is a bummer as I like the Duet, and I have notified their support team. Just thought I'd post here, as I've seen others posting with similar CPU problems, at times involving a Duet.
