Hello there,

I'm relatively new to this, I'm trying to get my Synth ( Roland JX-8p ) into Ableton. I've managed to get it to function as a Midi Controller so far, and am able to drop in Supplied Sounds from the Ableton Library and play with those. I would really like you use some of the Analog sounds the synth has onboard though. (I can hear my synth making onboard sounds in my headphones) Speakers are doing ableton presets. I would love some advice/direction. Thanks everyone.

Also, I'm using the low end E-Mu Midi x2in/out- device thing with Firewire. As of now I have it Synth Out > E-Mu In, Ableton Input: E-MU XMidi2x2 Track ( On ) Sync (Off) Remove (On)
I'm sure its just a matter rerouting these things + some in Ableton, but I'm new to this like I said, if we can remedy this + a explanation I would be ++++ Appreciated knowledge for sure, thanks!

Have you looked at the instrument named External Instrument? It would let you send MIDI out of Live to the JX-8p's IN and receive audio from the Audio OUT of the synth all in the same track.

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't aware of that instrument, I've found it but haven't been able to get any results. I only have one midi cord, I don't quite follow you when you say " JX-8p's IN and receive audio from the Audio OUT " The one on the synth? Do I need two cords, one in each the IN and OUT on the Synth? The External Intrument also has some in and out options to route things, those are probably relevant? Thanks. I just want to get this stuff working so I can start layering in ableton damnit.

I'm using ABLive 8.1.1 and Windows7.

audio is different from midi.

you need to route the audio from the synth into your computer via the computers soundcard.

read the section in the manual about "external instruments" p385
