Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm trying to draw an envelope to automate some tempo changes and I can't get it to go to my desired tempos (136.02bpm and 174bpm). Not even fine-tune will do this. Is there anywhere to type in the tempo I want to be automated?

Seems like a pretty basic function. At least in ProTools it was.

I'm starting out on Ableton as well but here's a way I got around that.

I setup for example 2 clips in session view. I set their bpm on the scene launch box so say 90bpm and 120 bpm. I launch the 90 bpm scene for 1 bar then launch the 120 bpm scene for 1 bar. Then if you switch to arrangement view on the master track the automation should show your tempo changes. Now just highlight and duplicate or copy/paste to map out your tempo.

Thanks! I had to record to the arrangement...not sure if that's what you did, but I copied and pasted what it recorded and it worked.

Kind of a weird how we have to workaround basic functions like this, but I guess the program's dynamic timeline and stabilty make it okay.

exactly, yeah sorry I was listening to music while I was writing that so it probably didn't make too much sense. I agree though i think there should be an easier way. There might be but it'd be a workaround because I could never find one in the manual.

Much easier way to do this I just figured out.


Just make a new audio track and throw a utility plugin on it and then group it so you get some macros. Then highlight all your Master Tempo envelope info and copy envelope. now paste this into macro 1 on your dummy rack in arrangement view. then drag the track off to your browser and save as "Master BPM info"

open your new project and drag this track back in. copy the envelope from macro 1 and paste into your master BPM automation lane.

its weird because the data will look wrong on the dummy macro lane but once you paste back into the master tempo channel it will be back to the way it was.

NOTE: make sure your BPM range on your master is set to the right values before pasting the data back in.
