mmm...midi or usb??????

im wondering here......is it better to control my UC33 via Midi on my soundcard or directly from the usb port om the mac?
It seems my audio dropouts are happening when i am turning a knob on the UC33 at the same time as some large audio parts and fx are dropping into the mix....
Anyone got the best solution?

i dont think that will make much of a difference , your audio dropout is because of a CPU spike, due to so much processing. if live was to support dual processors this would not be a problem..
have u also tried a different buffer setting with ur soundcard ? this will take some of the effort off the cpu

Vince,
does it happen regardless of which parameter you control or are the dropouts bound to specific actions ?
I also would be curious if the probelm also persist if you throw out allmost all clips but leave all the FX in ?
Same vice versa, get rid of all FX , see if it still causes problems, if not
add one after another till it sucks again and let us know when it starts getting annoying.

hi robert, a big fan of yours here...
regarding the dropouts, it is not restrictied to any certain area of the set, nor any particular knob on the uc33, its just a case of....'mmm, is this gonna happen durung this set or not?'....i have done everything...from reinstalling the whole OS and ableton, to reupdating drivers for everying i use.
one thing has changed for me though....i did comment to davethedrummer that my dropouts were definatly not pauses, and that they were audiodropouts.
After making a new set last night with midi being used, it seems i was wrong. the set did dropout and glitch, but when it came back in midi on sync on the mpc2000xl was slighly out..
Obviously this renders my ability to have this setup in a live gig totatlly pointless....
I am very pleased that ableton seem more pro-active in recent days, in perticular your good self...
I have no bad things to say about live in any way, its not an easy task you at your end and while we have problems to iron out on the mac platform, most of us are fully appreciative of what you are doing.....
