Is it possible to create a granular synthesis synthesizer?

I read this article on granular synthesis & tried it out.

http://www.swarmintelligence.net/2010/1 ... -with.html

Got some amazing effects out of it, but i fumbled when i got to the racking-the-Simplers step. Is it possible to create a virtual synth out of several instances of the same slice, each pitched chromatically, perhaps as a rack? While we're on the topic, could i map the automation to some macros to control the granulation while i play? I hope my question is clear, thanks for your response in advance! : )

Its a good description of granular synthesis but i would get confused using big drum racks like that. I use a mixture of simpler/samplers with really small loops that i move about using start point and length plus arpeggiators with really rapid rates. The answer to both your questions is yes. You can ctrl or apple click any pad on a drum rack to move it about. The tuning can be done either on the simpler transpose or on the io section of the drum rack. Mapping simpler parameters to a macro is really good idea.

Thanks for the response, though as a relative n00b i am still grappling with some of this terminology. Would it be possible for you to upload a sample set so i can see what you are talking about? I promise not to steal your sound source & give you heaps of praise if i get something working properly : )
