Ableton and M-Audio

Post by supster » Tue Jan 11, 2005 1:29 am

Question:

Rumor has it that M-Audio is the parent company for Ableton.

Is this true? What is the relationships b/t the two companies, beyond packaging promotions with M-Audio hardware?

I was told yesterday that M Audio (in some way) owns Ableton and that they are both under a company that owns Digidesign. Also that Yamaha now owns Steinberg and is in the works with Apple.

This is what I thought, but some are saying it goes further than that ...

.. that M-Audio are the parent company

?

ie: a distributor only would not have any creative control or input over the overall direction and marketing of the product. A parent company would

So there would be a big difference.

Confirmation on this? Ableton?

you wanna make a bet a distributor does not have any control?

If MAUDIO is responsible for a large percent of abletons sales, then they would most definately have a say in the product.

sweetjesus is right. M-Audio is just the distributor with some influence (Ableton and M-Audio have a good relationship from what I understand).

M-Audio is a business unit of Digidesign which is an audio division of Avid. Or, according to M-Audio's main page on their site "M-Audio, a part of Avid"

Digidesign is bought by Avid so Avid is the owner.

Avid owns M-Audio, M-Audio is the U.S. distributor for Ableton Live, ArKaos VJ, Wizoo, and iDrum.

BTW, Propellerhead is no longer distributed by M-Audio in the U.S.. The relationship was terminated on January 10th, 2005. Line 6 is now the new Propellerhad distributor in the U.S..

Works fine for me (Live & 410) and many other people. Did you try contacting M-Audio's tech support?

Yeah i thought it was just a distribution arrangement - one clear indicator of this would be the Live bundles which include non-M-Audio controllers. I would eat my trousers if M-Audio were selling their competitors' products. Well maybe not eat them, but I'd still be surprised.
