Hi,

I use a studio with Ableton and am considering making the purchase myself fora new home PC. There is one thing that really bugs me and is stopping me make the purchase. I tend to not really use Clips and Session mode, and as such when I come to mixing down, half of the screen is wasted with blank grey space, and I don't feel I have such precise control over the faders or reading the meters.

Is there any way of changing the view so I can have a full screen mixer, or a pop out mixer?

Another quick question, I'm putting together a new PC, should i go for a faster i5 CPU (dual Core) or slower i7 (quad Core)

I use session view for mixing with the faders made as big as possible.

yeah, the biggest i seem to be able to get them is half of the screen (and thats reduced when i have the send/return dials and track delay viewed.

However a big greay space full of empty clips tkaes up the rest of the screen, i delete the empty clips, but i can't seem to increase the size of the faders

you do have a bit of empty space above, but AFAIK faders in other programs aren't much bigger (I know cubase wasn't)

They seem to have much less space assigned, i seem to have space for 18 clips, and i can't seem to reduce that, so on a 21" monitor, there is about 8" wasted with nothing! Am I missing a trick here? i can't seem to resize the session area at all

yes you can stretch the mixer to about half the screen, put the cursor on the dividing line, it will change to a double-arrow, then just drag up

Ok, I am doing it right, thats a little bit disappointing for me personally, i understand the benefits of session view, but a dedicated mixing view that utilises the grey space with plug in information etc might be a better use of space for me personally.

ok, I'm doing it wrong then...

drag the line between the sends and the meters, if you want to se the dB's just widen the channels.

Ok,scrap that, I was just doing it right, you just had all the options turned on.

Oh well. Pop up mixer that could utilise the second screen would still be a great addition

I use the second screen to display 3rd party plugins, that way as soon as I click on a channel I see all the plugins, and I have my left hand on the tab key to switch between arrangement and mixer.

Logic's mixer is freaking tiny compared to Live's, could be worse!

Sonar X1 is just amazing for Mixing! Ableton should include a Mixer console view! seriously how hard is it to make it! I'm very disappointed in Live now.

The only reason that Live caught my attention was the session view, but the more I work with it the more things I find missing in Live! Simple key binding is a huge deal for efficient working! Live key binding is very limited!

I think a dedicated mixing view would be great. But I also wonder:

Size? really? I'm not sure why having the faders covering my screen would be a good thing. If I look at logic, cubase, etc.. the faders are a similar size.

Maybe try mixing with hardware? If you had an APC40 or some such you could just mix with your hands instead of the mouse.

It's kind of like when i get pissed that the midi editing in Live is missing things, then i remember, oh yeah, you're supposed to play stuff LIVE and not draw it.
