Hey guys (and girls),

I watched the tutorial that Tom Cosm did on splitting up the various parts of your "tracks" into smaller clips and loading them all into one live set to play live. Problem is, now that they are audio, they are very "loop" sounding, where the audio cuts off and abruptly start again.

When I hear guys live that use this method, bluetech, eskmo, nosaj thing...everything sounds real clean. Any suggestions besides volume envelopes?

Also, I'm having some problems with crashing when I am working on my live set, ive broken down 2 songs into it so far, and Ableton crashes sometimes, with minimal CPU load, sometimes even when just editing and not even playing.

Can anyone guve me senior knowledge on how to make this Cosm technique very clean and streamlined with no problems? I'm sure people have experience on this so please help me out. Thanks! Any other tips and tricks you may have would be GREATLY appreciated.

What kind of computer you hav? Shouldn't be crashing if its real version? Never had a problem

First of all.. if Ableton and also other programs on your PC crash, you might wanna check your RAM.

To avoid "Loopy" sound, use Send Effects for example.
Or do a different type of rendering where there are twice the bars rendered which it needs.
E.g. you have a 4 Bar Loop, it starts, and it plays again.
Now when you mix that down with all the effects in it, you can loop the 2nd half of it
without someone noticing it but you can also start it regulary.

While Tom's method is easy on first sight, he doesnt go any further.
You need to chop up your track, rearrange stuff and loop important passages and so on.

Otherwise you could just throw in a CD and play around on the EQ of a DJ Mixer

mattadms, thanks for that. I am the author of the thread, had to change names. I have made a lot of music, but I am confused about the purpose, especially here, of the return A, return B, etc.

I know you can route tracks to a return track with effects on it, but would you recommend a reverb to cover the tracks of the loop?
