Just got the APC20. Connected the usb and power. Turned off computer. Restart. Load Ableton. The controller doesnt work, its not pre mapped but i can midi map the buttons myself then that particular button will work. I went to the options and midi sync tab and the apc40 comes up in the list of possible devices so i read that it is compatible with the apc20 so i select it and for input i select apc20 and for output i select apc20. REboot the system still nothing but the box in the top right corner lights up when i press any of the buttons. Sliders dont control the track volume either so in effect i have a functional apc20 that is not automapped like it should be? I once owned the apc40 and never had this issue. Any ideas?
thanks and regards

Hey did you ever get this figured out? I'm having a similar problem but I've never had an APC40. I just got the APC20 and had problems right off the bat with the included CD (buttons flashing without command, master volume fluctuating by itself, etc.). I'm currently trying to sort it out with tech support.

Well I figured it out for my end...not sure if it's going to help you.
I'm using the Line 6 UX2 as my audio engine and that needs to be up & running first, then I have to connect the APC20 and turn it on, then start the software (Version 8.2.1 APC Edition). When I do that everything is fine so the order of operations is important. All the mappings are setup correctly as advertised.
If you don't see "APC20" under "control surfaces" then it seems like the wrong software version. I ended up downloading it from the site (8.2.1) as opposed to installing it from the included CD. Give that a try...pretty sure choosing APC40 as your control surface won't work.
