Two controllers from the same manufacturer usually works pretty good together.

I've read somewhere recently (though can't find it at the moment) that they do actually clash. But I believe it can be remedied fairly easily. I'm actually strongly considering this exact same set-up. It seems pretty functional and very mobile.

i seem to recall you need autmap pro, I'll have a look tonight at home, but since automap is known to be a bit trick i thought i ask here around, maybe someone has the two controllers and has any hints.

hi there
I have both the Nocturn and the Launchpad and they do initially clash as you HAVE to use automap for the nocturn. However, Automap PRO allows you to use multiple products through automap. At the moment if you own the Launchpad and the Nocturn you are entitled to a FREE license of Automap pro.
Go to
http://www.novationmusic.com and sign in and register the serials of both your products, it will give you Automap Pro for FREE! (Fantastic!)
Automap with the Launchpad is pretty useless so i turn off automap functionality on the Lpad by holding USER 1 + USER 2 + MIXER + VIEW (think that's correct)

I've seen elsewhere that Automap can actually enhance the Launhpad quite significantly, as you can toggle between using the Automap mappings and the native Ableton use. It would be such a shame if you couldn't do this and you had to choose either one or the other, though it still seems like a pretty handy controller anyway.

I'll have to find a way to do this then as the button to scroll down through your set is the same as VIEW so it keeps opening autoamp every time! Although i understand my statement is a big generalisation, what i meant was at the moment it seems
useless for me.
Having said that, i did only get it for xmas so need to figure it out properly as I'm sure it is actually fantastic otherwise they would have brought it out!

I'm pretty interested to use the Nocturn and Launchpad pairing. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for this post, highlights the issues I was having with thinking I had to decide between the two at the start of my set.
I'm going to have a fiddle now and report any interesting things I experience with the nocturn and the launchpad in sync.

I've been trying since the last post to run a DJ set in Ableton with effects such as EQ's high, mid low, filter sweep etc on the Nocturn with beat repeats and gates in the effects channel on the Launchpad however personally I find it far too hard switching between native/Automap each time I want to use the session mode to launch clips.
The problem I find is that switching (USER 2 + VIEW) from effects set up with Automap to session mode is OK. But switching back I have to press the USER Button which my effects rack is on, then VIEW on and off otherwise it doesn't register the buttons. Huge hassle every time i want to launch a clip with an effect.
However, a HUGE benefit of the automap is have buttons which can have momentary values...
I've just switched my effects back to native mode as it was just too much trouble. I started to assign keyboard strokes to my nocturn (automap pro) and simply reverting back to my mouse and leaving the launchpad simply for effects just so i could navigate round and launch clips.
If this makes no sense I am happy to expand.
To reference the OP though, the Nocturn still sits calmly in the background sticking to its MIDI channel regardless of what I did with the launchpad so they both worked fine together. More an issue I have with the Launchpad and Automap (who would want to use automap in session mode! just keep automap for the USER buttons and keep session mode native... /rant...)

How's the crossfader on that puppy?
Been thinking about a Nocturn, I guess I can get past the weird alignment of the channels.
I'm guessing that was done so you could mve two adjacent knobs easier, without them being too close together?

Pretty good actually, very smooth movement, tpo much friction to be able to flick it A/B with one tap though but I dislike crossfaders like that anyways personally.

I've actually set the controls so they only control certain buttons each using automap, not the functionality where it can control whatever rack/knobs is viewd in ableotn so for me i've set it out intuitively with the top 4 knobs controlling the top for macros of the rack. but if you do have it otherways, it is rather a weird setup.
Check the video above as the dude talks about switching these features when producing vs performing etc
