Hey guys. First of all I would like to say thanks to anybody who can help me out.

I am having problems setting the default volume level on imports into Simpler to 0 db. This becomes apparent for me when using Drum Rack. Every time I drop a drum sample onto Drum Rack it automatically reduces the level to -12db. I want it to be zero. I am using Live 8.2.1.

Second of all, allow me to say that yes, I read the manual. On page 217 it states:

To specify how Live behaves when dragging a sample to a Drum Rack or the Track View of
a MIDI track:
? Create an empty Simpler or Sampler
? Adjust the parameters as you like
? Drag the edited device to the On Drum Rack or On Track View folder, which can
be found at Library/Defaults/Dropping Samples

The problem first rose in that I didn't have a "Dropping Samples" folder in the Library/Defaults folder. So I created one (I did already have a Library/Defaults/Slicing folder, however). Creating the folder did no good though. After creating the folder and dropping the Simpler rack into the folder, like the instructions said, it didn't change any of my settings. The level is *still* set at -12db whenever I drop a sample in. highly annoying.

Can anybody help me out?

Hi, did you try saving the settings of the device as a default preset? See page 216 in the manual for more on this.

Extra w00t! That problem had been bugging the crap out of me.

To fix my problem, I had to do like you said (right click on the Simpler device with something dropped in it and set to 0db, then click "save as default"), then drop it into the folder which I had created (cause it wasn't there to start with), which was the Defaults\Dropping Samples\On Drum Rack folder.

Once I did this it actually has the defaults I want when I drop something there. Thank you for taking the time to help me out, I wouldn't have figured it out without you. The instructions were unclear on this point; it just says you have to drag Drum Rack into the folder.
