I've just bought and tried out the "Rock Band Portable Drums" by MadCatz (xbox360 version) - plugged in to my PC and using a utility called Joy2Key to convert the game controller drum hits to keyboard characters and this works brilliantly as drum triggers in Live. I've tested this so far with Impulse and Battery3 - no noticable latency and has been great fun (and Battery has the bonus of the learn function on its cells so it's so easy to set up a kit that corresponds to the pads).

The only downside is that the pads are NOT velocity sensitive but as the whole thing cost less than me £7.50 it's difficult to grumble - in fact it's been so good that I've just ordered another set to give me a total of 8 pads and 2 foot pedals for under £15.

I've also tested the pedals as footswitches for Looper and changing scenes and this also works brilliantly.

I thought this might be of interest to anyone who wants to have a go at bashing out beats or finding some extremely cheap pedals to control Live.

Nobody on here likes dynamic range in a single drum sound anyway.

Nobody on here is skilled enough on playing drums live to use dynamic range in a single drum sound properly. The lack of this option is actually more of an ass saver than a deterrent.
