Audio drops out, then pops back in--click remains

Used the search function, but couldn't find this specific issue addressed.
I have an intermittent problem where when I first trigger a scene, the audio starts up normally for a few measures, and then drops out for 2 or 3 seconds, and then pops back in. Once that happens and we're running scenes, I usually can retrigger the scene and it plays normally.
It's not 100% reproducible all the time, but when it does reoccur, it's at the exact same spot in the clip, and it comes back at the same time. This will happen on different scenes on different days, but sometimes it doesn't happen at all. It's frustratingly intermittent. Live never crashes, and if I just play through it, the loop pops back in and we're fine, but it's definitely noticeable, especially if we're in a part that emphasizes the loop.
I happened to be looking at the screen while it was happening the other day, and as far as I can tell, my cpu never went beyond 6%. I'm using a MBP. I've just updated to latest version of Ableton 8, but as far as I can tell, it's happened with all versions that I can remember.
Interestingly, my friend, who uses Ableton 8 on a different MBP, with a different audio interface, has the exact same drop out problem happen to him as well. Has anyone else figured out what is causing this?
