Alright, poll time.

Who here has actually sat down and read the hardcopy.

Be honest.

I can unequivocally say I have. On the A train. To and from work every day. I honestly have read every manual of something I own.

Someones remark (and plenty of posts too) make me doubt how many users out there have actually read it.

So c'mon, fess up!

The only manual I read cover to cover was for the Notron sequencer - but it was fairly unique.

Yeah I bought it as Live 3 and then got the upgrade, so I have a Hardcopy of the Live 3 manual. I'm currently reading my Nord Rack 2 manual (nicked one off ebay for under $400). Its amazing - no matter how much you think you know somehting, you can read the manual and always find new things it can do.

I've not read the manual. I originally bought version 1, so I have read that but live has come along way since then. Wow, on a side note, I bought version 1 less than 2 years ago - I recieved it on my date of registration, man this software has come a long way in a short period of time. Live 2 I think had just been released when I got it so I got the free upgrade to 2.

To get back on track I emailed ableton support earlier in the week to inquire about purchasing a printed manual. They promptly responded and told me the cost was $20 us/eur plus shippng. I was going to order it Friday but had to pay for school. I will be getting it in the next week or so. I am like 5inusoid, I will throw the thing in a bookbag and read it on the bus, on the train, on the toilet, while in bed, while eating cereal. Also looking forward to getting Live 4 power.

Hey Smutek, don't you think it would be cheaper to print the PDF, 3 hole punch it, and use a dedicated 3 ring binder.

Hell yeah!
I love me some manuals. Manuals are in my favorite reading list, especially manuals about software and electronics.

Yeah, it does use up a lot of ink. I have done that, with the reason manual when I first bought that. I didn't really like going that route though, eventually the binder gets a ringer, the pages start ripping, etc. etc. I had a hook up in a print shop that printed and bound the reason 2.0 manual for me in exchange for a cheeseburger when I worked in a restaraunt down the street. I looked into the cost of having a printer print and bind the live 4 manual for me and it was in the neighborhood of $40 Sadly I no longer have access to cheese burgers.......

Nah, I'd much rather have a printed copy then the do it yourself notebook style.
