Maybe he's concerned about the extra pressure on the CPU and/or memory while playing live? I have no idea how much of an effect it would have though.

Oh- I do not use ableton to DJ though I use it for production. I am just on his forum alot and wanted recommendations. I play vinyl and I need to record from the mixers 2track output

I can vouch for the Zoom H4n. I use it for field recording, but you can also record line in as well. Solid device. Does what it claims to.

yes, the new Zoom h4n looks realy good n solid!
i just ordered TASCAM DR-100, because i found it in a discounted price...
I ll keep you posted.

I've got the H4N. It does everything except make beer. Excellent product. It is the favored recorder for cinematographers.

Olympus LS-10... doesnt have that crappy plastic body like the zoom H4N,
but since ur only using the line-in: go with the zoom as you wont have
to worry about noises coming frmo the body of the recorder.
ive used the olympus for both purposes and it has done a wonderful job so far.
recording sets is also never a problem, also the integrated limiter does an excellent job
on preventing audible distortion.
