Alright so I got my apc40 and used the cd it came with to input the
serial number and unlock it to be used with Live 7.

Now I am trying to sync up the remote with Live 8 and having
a little difficulty.

What are the steps I need to take to complete that process?

Any help is appreciated

Do you have it set up as a Control Surface in preferences?

Sure do. Thing is the input bar is greyed out and the output bar wont let me choose
Usb audio device like it tells me to in the manual

Is your APC40 plugged in via the power adapter and turned on?

I Also did the part where it says to turn on the track and remote tabs on
under the Midi Ports section too and it still wont sync up

What devices show up on your dropdown menu for the Control Surface settings? Are there more than one?

Actually, I have another question. Are you already using the APC40 in a different program? Or have any other programs already open that use midi devices?

The devices that show up are the apc40 along with 50 other choices.
I chose apc40 of course

And no I dont have the remote hooked up to any other programs or have
any programs with midi activated. I made sure only Live 8 is on

Oops, sorry, when I said devices, I intended to mean the Inputs/Outputs. Which devices are listed for your Outputs in Control Surfaces? (you said inputs is grayed out completely??)

@yur2die- yes the input tab is greyed out and the output tab gives only the Microsoft GS wavetable synth option. Which I have no idea what that means.

@tone-I have followed that page exactly as it has told me haha

Do you guys know if there is a support contact number I could call about my issue?

Thanks again for the help

And you've tried multiple times unplugging and replugging the USB jack into your computer?

I would also suggest trying different ports on your computer. Are you using a USB Hub? Try unplugging some usb devices that you know work on a specific port, and plugging your APC into that. That is about the last thing I'd attempt before I'd start getting worried. haha

After all that, having it plugged into usb etc. I'd also give Ableton Live a restart.

I'll be home in a few hours and will check my settings.

set it up in Control Surfaces at the top of that screen. I don't recall if you NEED the Remote or Track in/out options set.

does your box light up when you turn on the power?
do the midi activity lights (upper right) light up when you twiddle a control?
:?

haha yes I have tried unplugging the usb and plugging it back into each and every one of my usb ports and no change. I have also tried restarting and no change. And yes all light light up and work on the remote when it is turned on and plugged in.

This is like a bad dream with no end in sight lol

One question tho, would the apc40 not work on the demo version of Live 8? Not that I have the demo, just curious. Because my other friend had the demo and could not get the remote to sync up to it

The fact that nothing is showing up in the Control Surfaces input/output section kind of freaks me out. Does it appear in the bottom for MIDI Ports? You're able to select it as Track/Remote??

The main problem seems to be either drivers are not installing properly (there may or may not be drivers available for d/l at the akai site), or there is another program hijacking your APC40 as a MIDI controller. If another audio application is using your APC40, it won't let Ableton Live use it. Do you have any other midi software? Possibly even anything running in the background??

This sounds like a situation I would not wish upon myself :P ..or anyone else for that matter. Best of luck!!
