Automation question!?!

I had a question about using automation int he session view... Usually when I make my tracks I like to do it in session view in clips and build a foundation for my final piece using all the clips and scenes.
I find myself not being able to record automation in the session view without having to dedicate the tracks to arrangement view by recording them first. Then I can do automation.
I want to be able to automate things before recording the final session into arrangement view. Is this possible, if so how?

I find that very lame indeed... hahahaha! Man, that sucks... So explain to me this, how exactly is this guy doing this set in Ableton Live?

I think he does an excellent job with this song and I know his skill level is way over and above mine but I want to learn to do that... I am assuming he is doing everything in session view recording everything to clips and triggering it with his foot peddle. I have also seen people do similar live sets but also using automation... Wondering if there is a mix between clips being recorded live and preloaded clips in the arrangement view?
Any insight on this? I am trying to get a live set going that will run 15 mins or so and be able to trigger, preloaded clips and also record stuff live... Thanks!

You can use "Clip-Envelopes" or use the "Midi-Loopback" trick to create automation clips.
There is no direct support from live for recording "clip envelopes" though.

Can you (or someone) elaborate on this please? Or link me to somewhere/thing that does? Thanks.

Should be on the forum here. Use the search function.
Basically it´s just using a virtual midi cable (like Midi Yoke) and recording automation in midi clips.
You take on end of the virtual midi cable as remote control input and send midi from a clip to the other end.
