Midi Syncing 2 Laptops

I have a PowerBook G3 running Live, and am looking into getting a Dell Inspiron 8200 to run AudioMulch and some other aps. Just wondering what's the most efficient way to sync the Dell to the PB. I've tried a couple of experiments, but I've only been succesful by using 2 interfaces and a cable conection for the in to the out of them - not sure if this is the best way to do it.
I'm also wondering what a good sound card would be to get for the Dell. AND I'm wondering if a realy good sound card would be nessisary for the PB (right now I only have the standard Mac supplied card, which works fine with my Oxygen8). I'm thinking that, since the PB midi is only making a sync signal, it doesn't nessisarily have to be the best - but the one for the PC, which will be recieving and processing the signal, will have to be much better. Is this theory true? Thanks for your time.
