Disable record automation?

I do solo instrumental music and I use Ableton as my main DAW/workstation. I want to go out and do some live shows bringing Ableton with me to handle the backing tracks. While I'm performing I'd like to record the performances to capture improvisational moments and listen back to review the show. The problem I'm running into is that if I do this it writes over all the automation I have setup.

I haven't looked extensively, but is there a way to disable record automation? Some of the automation is an important part of the music. I don't want to lose it during playback.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Thanks

I'm not sure I follow. My setup for live use will be guitar>Line 6 POD HD500>Live (via USB from POD). I'm using Touchable on the iPad as a control surface. When I record audio it writes over automation as well. I don't understand how turning off midi remote in will change that. Can you clarify?

Thanks!

There might be a better way to do it, but here's the simplest solution I can think of: Do what your doing now, and save the file as a different project.

Then you have the old one, plus the new one. Might wanna save a copy of your project ahead of time in case you accidentally save over it. Peace.

I thought about doing that also, and that's probably what I'll end up doing.

It'll be cool to have different versions saved anyway.

Thanks!

OK, makes more sense now. you want to record audio while using pre-determined automation. dummy clips might help you.

Setup an audio track for resampling.
