Why Make music?

Why have some of you taken the plunge? Was it always just something you had to do? Was it because of other artists? Is it simply to be creative? Do you wish to achieve something greater, or simply happy just making music for yourself?

Just curious to hear peoples mindsets towards it.

Cause it's fun, and rewarding. Personally, rewarding, if not socially or monetarily.

When I was 14, I listened to lot of Eric Clapton, his older stuff where everybody called him god. I never understood that ... Sure he was enjoyable listening, but "god" ?
On my way back from school I always thought up elaborate guitar solos of my own, to kill the long walk home. These solos seemed to me to be equivalent, or better, than those of Clapton so I thought ... I could do that!
But guitar wasn't hip, it was 1984. Still I realised - I can do that thing which people treat as if it's magic.
And that's how I became the world famous superstar I am today.

This is the best story I have ever heard.

So I can post shed-loads on music production forms, post after long-winded post, on and fucking on, about how shite everything is, ranging from crappy hosts, plug-ins to the real evil in this world, the companies themselves. On and on I go, on and fucking on...

Or not.

i've made music since i was a child and i've always had an overwhelming urge to be creative. when i'm not making something i become very unhappy.

also it stops my frightful mind from ripping me in two and tipping me over the edge. sometimes

I think it was when the voice accompanied by a bright light that said to me "And Lo, it is your destiny, you shall make music which will be enjoyed by the masses..."
Then I realised it was my mis-spent youth catching up with me after being awake for far too long at the end of 14 days worth of 12hr shifts at work. Nothing Divine about it at all.
