Edit: I am on a Mac, running Snow Leopard and Live 8.2.1

OK so here's the deal, I open live and it opens (what a concept!). Then i load ANY project and the project loads (phew that's great isn't it?).

I can let it sit there after it opens for hours and nothing happens. The SECOND i do anything, live quits unexpectedly. This means anything, Cmd+Tab to another app, press the space bar, even click on anything in the project.

Now here's the weird part, I can reopen live doing the same process a million times and it will do the same thing, BUT if while live opens, I click on "yes" to the message (Live unexpectedly quit while you were working on "Project" would you like to recover your work" then it works fine after that.

Also if i close the project (Cmd+W) then close live after a blank project loads, live quits fine. IF however, I quit live (Cmd+Q) while the project is open, live unexpectedly quits.

I tried repairing permissions, running Onyx, trashing the cache and stuff.

I am at a loss on this one. I mean live works, but its a pain to open it TWICE every time I want to work on a project.

Anyone else have this issue or know how to resolve it?

you should get in touch with support and they'll ask you send to send logs, etc.

Pathos, I think I have a similar problem. 8.2.1's been running like a dream until the last couple of days then suddenly has started crashing a lot when loading/quitting, changing prefs etc. Nothing's changed on my OS bar updating Firefox and Flash. I've fixed permissions, trashed preferences, run ONYX, reinstalled Live, same problems. I'll contact support soon, but I'd like to know: did you have any luck in fixing this problem?

Did you check Console for interesting messages?

Most of the time, but having Airport on/off makes no difference.

I thought I should add- this problem is definitely the same as the one Pathosmusic has/had. If I reload Ableton after the crash and recover my work it seems to work fine, but if not it is totally unusable. Despite this workaround it would be nice to solve this problem!

Thanks I'll check into this. I haven't been using HAL (at all) or Rewire (recently), although I did just make a new template, which contains one VST, so I'll check this out. Otherwise I haven't even updated my AU's/VST's in ages.

Thank you so much auridevil, I think you've got it! I had a single instance of Roger Nichol's Inspector VST on my master fader in my template, which I have removed and Ableton seems to be running without problems. I then reverted back to my old template and the crashing started again, so the VST seems to have been the problem.

SOrry I haven't checked back here in a while.

I tried everything possible, from disabling plugins, resetting template session, trashing prefs, onyx, re-install, permissions, OSX install dvd repair. Nothing worked.

I finally fixed the issue after reinstalling my WHOLE OS. Reformatted HDDs and full reinstall of everything on my system. Its a pain to have to fix a problem with this method, but it has worked for me in the past, and being very organized with my backups and external media helps the process greatly.
