How do I get VST plugins to work in Live for OSX? I've shown it the directory in which I have 20 or so effects. But none show up as accessible in Live. Do I need OSX versions?

MAC OS X supports AU's (Audio Units). I cutn'pasted the info. from OSXAudio for others to read.

AU VST X MAS RTAS TDM Effect Instrument Utility Host

Finally all the rumours regarding a solution to getting OS X compatible VST Plugins to run within an AudioUnits Host are true. UK developers, FXpansion have done the seemingly impossible and created a utility that will take an VST-X plugin and build an AudioUnits version of it.

Go to fxpansion & pre-order yours today. What a breakthrough for users who have libraries of VST plug-ins. Eventually, we'll see more OS X plugs.

But wait...

isnt there 2 types (or formats) of VST plugins for OS X - Carbon and Macho? I think the current version of live 2 on OS X only supports the carbon format, which may be the reason why some of your OS X Plugs dont show up.

Could someone from ableton HQ confirm this please.

Thankyou

Q:
I try to use my VST instruments in Live, but they don't show up in the VST Plug-in-Window.
A:
Unfortunately, you can't use VST instruments within Live. Any VST instruments in your Plug-in directory will be ignored when you launch the program.
