addicted to Ableton Live. They say that's the first step towards recovery right? :) On a more serious note, here's my conundrum and I'm seeking some advice if anyone is willing to listen/read and offer an opinion.

I've been playing music since I was a young kid, starting with school band, woodwinds, trumpet, drums, then practically wore out my older brother's electric guitar until getting one for myself, mostly toying around with that for years and years,... well music kinda took a back seat to school/work/family/bicycle racing/motorcycles,.. you know, those other passions.

And now, over the last year or two,... it's back! Mostly prompted by my two young daughters growing interest in music, playing guitar and piano, and my older daughter writing songs/poetry etc,... Over the last several months I've been downloading trial software from everyone and composing some things (my daughters have as well when I'm not hogging the thing), learning, playing, loving every minute of it. Anyway, after trying some of the others out there, I ran into Ableton Live and it feels like home! It just feels so intuitive with the Session view, the whole user interface experience, you name it. I feel like it was made for me and the way I think. Probably many of you have had similar experiences with it, you're here after all. I think the best way I can explain it is that it feels like I'm playing an instrument, rather than struggling with software. It's a joy.

I've been using the Suite 30 Day demo and it's gonna be up in a few days (oh no!!!), so here's the question.

Should I just get Live Intro and be done with it? Will it be enough for me? or will I soon find myself wanting Live or the Suite? Should I save my pennies for Live or dive into Live Intro now? Who is using Live Intro and have you found yourself wanting to upgrade? I have to say I watched the Live Intro videos here and it looks like it may serve me well, but I just don't know. Will the upgrade path to Live or Suite be economical for me when that time comes?

That's the question. Sorry for my ramblings.

This.

Some people will tell you to get suite some will not. It just all depends on what you want and what other software you have or plan on getting. I personally don't own suite because I took the money from that I bought komplete 6. I'm glad I did but you may want to go in a different direction. Like lite could be all you want but live 8 was the was I had to go.

^^ Agree

Get regular Live to start with, but you wont have much in the way of instruments to play with. Then Komplete from native instruments has allmost everything you could wish for (including some nice pianos) to get going and then some letting do pretty much anything from classical scoring to full on club music and include los of useful and interesting fx as well.

FRor actuallyn playign instruments rather than just programming you music wityh keyboard+mouse, then a good low latency audio interface is recommended as well rather than using whatever is in your computer. Event forgetting the improvement in sound quality, as a musician you will appreciate being able to play stuff without feeling totally disconnected from it.

BTW and off topic - what do people do with regular live and nothing else? Make minimal glitch music? Ive allways wondered..
